The Senior Advisor – Power Commercial & Contracts is responsible for leading the commercial structuring, evaluation, negotiation, and risk management of power offtake, transmission, and trading arrangements supporting renewable energy, energy transition, and strategic power import initiatives. Serves as the principal commercial senior advisor on long-term and short-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), power trading arrangements, and wheeling/transmission agreements required to develop, finance, and deliver large-scale power infrastructure projects. Ensures commercial arrangements are bankable, competitive, risk-balanced, and aligned with strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Power Offtake & Commercial Structuring: Lead the commercial structuring, negotiation, review, and execution of long-term/short-term PPAs, Corporate PPAs, back-to-back PPAs, electricity trading, and energy supply agreements.
Power Transmission & Cross-Border Arrangements: Lead commercial assessments and negotiations for Transmission Service Agreements (TSAs), wheeling arrangements, cross-border transmission access, interconnection agreements, and grid connection agreements.
Commercial Risk Management: Evaluate pricing/tariff structures, volume/availability obligations, curtailment risks, credit/counterparty risks, change-in-law, and force majeure events to protect shareholder value.
Project Finance & Bankability Support: Assist Corporate Finance and external advisors in structuring bankable revenue/transmission frameworks and ensuring alignment with financial models and lender requirements.
Capability Development: Mentor and coach Bahraini professionals and junior team members in PPAs, risk assessment, and contract negotiation.
Governance & Executive Support: Provide strategic commercial advice to the Group VP – NES Program Implementation and Group Chief Strategy Officer on major transactions.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, Finance, Energy Systems, Law, or a related discipline. Master’s degree or professional qualification in Commercial Management, Energy Economics, Law, or Project Finance is preferred.
Experience: 10–15 years of relevant experience in power, utilities, infrastructure, energy trading, project finance, or energy project development.
Track Record: Demonstrated experience in the commercial development or management of major infrastructure projects with capital values exceeding US$300 million, including multi-billion-dollar projects.
Domain Expertise: Experience in utility-scale/corporate PPAs, cross-border power transactions, regional electricity markets, transmission service agreements, and complex multi-party commercial structures.
