Technician – Laboratory

Position Overview & Role Purpose:
Are you a skilled, precision-driven medical laboratory technician passionate about delivering accurate diagnostic testing and supporting clinical excellence? Aster DM Healthcare is seeking a qualified Laboratory Technician to join its hospital and diagnostic operations team in Doha, Qatar.

In this vital clinical diagnostic role, you will be responsible for collecting, preparing, and analyzing biological specimens (blood, tissue, fluids), operating advanced laboratory analyzers, maintaining strict quality control and biosafety standards, and delivering timely test results to physicians.

Key Responsibilities & Laboratory Duties:

1. Specimen Collection, Processing & Testing:
– Perform venipuncture, sample collection, and proper labeling of biological specimens ensuring full patient verification and chain of custody.
– Process blood, body fluids, and tissue samples accurately utilizing automated laboratory analyzers and manual testing methods.
– Conduct routine and specialized hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and pathology assays with high precision and attention to detail.

2. Quality Control, Equipment Maintenance & Safety:
– Perform daily quality control (QC) checks, calibrations, and preventative maintenance on all laboratory diagnostic equipment.
– Troubleshoot technical equipment issues and maintain accurate documentation of QC logs and calibration records.
– Enforce strict laboratory biosafety guidelines, universal precautions, and waste disposal protocols to prevent contamination or hazards.

3. Results Reporting & Clinical Collaboration:
– Enter diagnostic test results accurately into Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Electronic Health Records (EHR) within established turnaround times.
– Flag critical or abnormal values immediately and communicate them to attending physicians and nursing staff.
– Coordinate with inventory teams to ensure reagents, testing kits, and laboratory supplies are adequately stocked.

Qualifications, Required Experience & Core Competencies:

– Academic & Professional Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.MLT), Biomedical Science, or a related laboratory discipline.
* Valid professional license or eligibility to obtain medical licensing via the Qatar Department of Healthcare Professions (QCHP).
– Practical Experience:
* Minimum 2 to 4+ years of hands-on clinical laboratory experience within a hospital or multi-specialty diagnostic center.
– Skills & Personal Attributes:
* In-depth knowledge of laboratory safety, pathology workflows, and automated diagnostic analyzers.
* Strong analytical mindset, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to multitask under pressure.
* Professional fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory; conversational Arabic is an asset.
